The Department of Livestock services has been playing an important role in the preservation, disease control and development of the country, along with the increase of livestock, poultry and dairy production to meet the needs of the country's animal protein. In the fiscal year 2015-16, the livestock sector contributes 1.66% to the fixed rate of GDP and the growth rate is 3.21% (Bangladesh Economic Survey, 2016). The contribution of livestock sector to total agricultural GDP is about 14.72% (estimated). Moreover, the size of the GDP in the livestock sector in the year 2015-16 is 32,910 crore (estimates), which is more than Tk 302.3 billion (BBS, 2015-16) compared to the previous year 2014-15. In the year 2015-2016, export earnings of raw and processed products produced in the livestock sector were about Tk 4,317.86 billion (EPB, 2014-15). About 20% of the population is directly and 50% dependent on the livestock sector. Further, the main source of meat, milk and egg production of animal protein has increased 36.11%, 19.46% and 17.16% respectively in the last three years. Presently, availability of meat, milk and eggs has increased to 121.74 gram / day, 157.97 ml / day and 92.75 / year respectively, which is playing an important role in meeting the demand of living organisms of the country's growing population.

Most people in the peace-loving Dinajpur district are occupied agriculture, but many people live their livelier and keep cattle and poultry chickens. In this district rich in livestock, there are 1671214 cows, 3132 buffaloes, 1010158 goats, 140849 sheep and many poultry chickens. Besides, there are 1129 dairy farms in the district, goats farm 132, sheep farm 19, layer chicken farm 461, broiler farm 830, parantstock farm 06 and duck farms are 56. These towns are becoming increasingly popular in the city or village. Unlike the demand for milk production, this industry is expected to have very high potential.
